The Aldingbourne, Barnham, and Eastergate Community Land Trust (ABE CLT) recently visited Wings Wood 2, the second phase of the successful Wings Wood housing development. This new phase marks a continued commitment by ABE CLT to provide affordable, high-quality housing for local residents, and those with a strong local connection.

At a recent handover, Steve Underwood from Southern Housing presented one of the 12 new CLT properties to Mike Link, Chair of the ABE CLT, symbolising the progress and collaboration behind this important initiative. Cllr Richard Rickard of Aldingbourne Parish Council was also in attendance, underscoring the two Parish Councils’ continued support for local homes for local people.

The Wings Wood development, built by Thakeham, has been a great start in addressing the need for affordable housing in the area. With a total of 109 homes across both phases, all available through shared ownership or affordable/social rent, the development offers a range of one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom homes. The CLT allocation scheme has been used for 34 of the rental dwellings. This mix aims to support families and individuals looking to settle within our community while staying close to friends and family.

Reflecting on this new milestone, Mike Link, Chair of ABE CLT, commented, “The positive feedback from our new tenants has been heartening. Local residents appreciate the priority given to those with strong local connections, and they’re thrilled with the quality and affordability of their new homes. It’s fulfilling to see our goal of creating community-centred, affordable living being realised.” He also acknowledged the vital support of Arun District Council’s housing team, as they operate our scheme alongside their normal application process.

The completion of Phase 2 brings to an end our first step to increase community cohesion by enabling local people and families to stay in Aldingbourne, Barnham, and Eastergate.
