Barnham & Eastergate Parish Council is pleased to be supporting the formation of a new Community Speedwatch group, working in partnership with local volunteers to promote safer roads in the community.

The Parish Council has provided funding for the equipment required by the newly formed group and will work alongside its volunteers to help recruit additional volunteers and promote the group’s activities within the community. As part of the partnership, the Parish Council will also liaise with the Community Speedwatch group to identify and highlight locations where speed monitoring activities would be beneficial. All locations have to be risk assessed and approved by Sussex Police before being used volunteers.

Community Speedwatch is an education focused initiative, designed to raise awareness among drivers about the importance of appropriate speed and encourage safer driving behaviour. It is not intended to replace or replicate the role of the police in enforcing speed limits. Instead, trained volunteers monitor vehicle speeds at approved locations and, where appropriate, information is passed through the established Community Speedwatch process to Sussex Police.

The group is looking for local residents who would like to volunteer their time and help support this community initiative. Whether you are concerned about speeding in your area or simply want to play a positive role in improving road safety, your support would be welcome.
